PLANTATION ISLAND ESCAPE- St. Kitts, Past, Present and Future
Your tour begins with a narrated drive through the colourful and winding streets of BASSETERRE (1727), the capital of St Kitts and the oldest town in the Eastern Caribbean. You will pass by many collections of historic Georgian and Victorian buildings and monuments such as the National Museum, Berkeley Memorial, Clock Tower, Independence Square (once a slave market), and centuries - old churches. Your first stop will be in the country home of CLAY VILLA PLANTATION HOUSE AND GARDENS where you will find an amazing mix of nature's Art throughout magnificent rainforest country style ornamental and fruit gardens, where green vervet monkeys, exotic birds, tropical fish, turtles, tortoises and another animals live. Wall Murals, the original plantation house (still a family home) with its "blouse and skirt" style architecture and an exceptional family museum filled with spectacular treasures of jewellery and many precious artefacts are on display for all to admire and enjoy. Breathtaking views of the sister island of Nevis and Palmetto Point Bay where leather backed turtles come to lay their eggs can be seen from the verandahs of Clay Villa.
After the tour you will receive a complimentary drink of a special blend of fruit/rum punch at the BLUE ANCHOR PUB and you will also have the opportunity to shop for souvenirs/artwork at the gift shop. There are also well maintained washroom facilities open to all visitors.
You will depart Clay Villa and drive along the island's scenic countryside road passing Bloody Point, (where many Caribs were killed in battle against the British); Old Road Bay; through quaint sleepy villages; pass by famous Kittitian landmarks such as Brimstone Hill Fortress (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and fertile mountain ranges.
Your next stop will be Gibbons Hill
from where you can see the Atlantic Waters meeting with the Caribbean Sea in a splash of waves that never ceases to fascinate.
A brief stop will also be made at BLACK ROCKS, marvellous ebony rock formations of natural beauty where the ever changing waves of the Caribbean beat against them; is a remnant of the once active volcano Mount Liamuiga.
Your tour will continue eastwards, where you will have the opportunity to see vibrant lush rainforest scenery, the pinnacle of the volcano, fields of sugar cane, impressive views of the Atlantic Ocean and picturesque lowlands of down town Basseterre and Bird Rock.
You will make your way over to the South East Peninsula and stop off at TIMOTHY HILL where breathtaking views await you. From here, you will see modern and future St. Kitts, elegant homes and resorts, Frigate Bay Beach, crushing waves of the Atlantic Ocean and with the turn of your head the blue tranquil waters of the Caribbean Sea.
You taxi driver will then take you back to Porte Zante/hotel. |
