DISCOVER ST. KITTS
Your tour begins with a narrated drive through the colourful and winding streets of BASSETERRE (1727), the capital of St Kitts and the oldest town in the Eastern Caribbean. You will pass by many collections of historic Georgian and Victorian buildings and monuments such as the National Museum, Berkeley Memorial, Clock Tower, Independence Square (once a slave market), and centuries - old churches. Your next stop is BRIMSTONE HILL FORTRESS is a U.N.E.S.C.O. World Heritage Site. Learn about the history of the Fort and its toll upon the African people who were brought to St. Kitts as slaves.Visit the museum and admire the fascinating array of artefacts of a bygone era which brings to life the many, battles between the English and the French. Enjoy magnificent, breath-taking, panoramic views of the Dutch islands of St. Eustatius, Saba, the tranquil waters of the Caribbean Sea and the surrounding country side with its lush green sprawling mountain ranges. You will continue your tour onto CLAY VILLA PLANTATION HOUSE (est. 1763) and GARDENS where the legacies of Carib, African and  Colonial all come together to create the KITTITIAN. Accompanied by a friendly and knowledgeable guide, take a leisurely stroll through enchanted majestic tropical gardens where green vervet  monkeys, beautiful exotic birds, red-footed South American tortoises, red-eared turtles and a variety of marine life call their home. Admire wall murals, contemporary art, visit the family museum and enjoy the worldwide collection of treasures and artefacts such as hand carved sculptures, jewellery, paintings, pottery and many more fascinating works of art. On and from the cool breezy verandahs you can see avariety of shells and fossils as well as magnificent views of the sister island of Nevis and Palmetto Point Bay where the leather back turtles come to lay their eggs. A tour of the original plantation house (still a family home, whose owners are descended from the Galibi Carib Indians) takes you momentarily back in time and a story unfolds as to how life was like then. Following your visit you will be served a complimentary drink at the BLUE ANCHOR PUB, have the opportunity to freshen up (there are well maintained washroom facilities are located on site) and shop for unique souvenirs and art work before re-boarding your taxi for the return drive to Port Zante/hotel. |
