(mabreeka is the kalinago/carib word for welcome)
Your tour begins with a drive around the historic and enchanting streets of BASSETERRE (1727), the capital of St. Kitts. You will view many ancient and monumental Georgian and Victorian buildings such as the National Museum, Berkley Memorial Clock Tower; historic sites that include Independence Square, a former African slave market, centuries-old churches and enjoy seeing the laid back hustle and bustle of island life. Your scenic drive continues to CLAY VILLA PLANTATION HOUSE and GARDENS (Est. 1763) which can be described as A Pandora’s Time Box full of delightful surprises around every corner. Experience life on a working plantation and let your imagination take you back in time. Learn about Carib beliefs and traditions and see the impact of the Carib – Amerindian, Colonial (British/French) and African cultures on St. Kitts. Stroll through exotic butterfly, rainforest, tropical, eco-friendly gardens full of beautiful flowers, fauna, and delicious fruits. Meet the shy green vervet monkeys, feed the ever hungry and inquisitive terrapins, keep a watchful eye out for the sharks and say hi to the Flintstones (red-footed tortoises). Admire the many remarkable and exquisite collections of treasures displayed in the family museum, which includes-sculptures, jewellery, pottery, hand painted fans, embroidered parasols, ancient maps, paintings and many more fascinating artefacts. Gaze upon impressive wall murals, tour the elegant original plantation house which is still a family home and momentarily experience life in paradise. At the end of your visit, take a few minutes to relax at the BLUE ANCHOR PUB (on site) where you will be served a complimentary beverage; have the opportunity to freshen up (there are excellent washroom facilities on site) and shop for unique souvenirs and art work before re-boarding your taxi. Your return drive will take you to FRIGATE BAY BEACH. A brief stop will made at TIMOTHY HILL where you will see breathtaking peninsula views, present day life, elegant homes, the Atlantic waves to the north and with a turn of your head the tranquil Caribbean Sea to the south.  Your taxi will then take you to Frigate Bay where you can swim in the crystal clear waters of the dazzling Caribbean Sea or just relax on the beach and enjoy yourself. There are beach bars where you can purchase drinks and/or food. |
